The Bull River is still very high following Tuesday evening's intense rainfall. Flooding will continue to affect a small number of properties on Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. The Cuckmere River near Cowbeech has already fallen significantly from its peak. Flooding impacts on Mill Lane Hellingly, and at Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm, as well as fields and rural roads should ease through the rest of Wednesday. Only scattered showers are forecast Wednesday, with very little rain for the rest of the week. The Cuckmere River should continue to fall in Hellingly, returning nearer to normal by Wednesday evening. The Bull River should begin to fall in Hellingly by 14:00 09/10/2024, and should return to normal by Thursday evening. Some roads including Church Road may remain impassable, please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. From 01:30 09/10/2024 flooding will affect properties on Mill Lane Hellingly, and at Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm, as well as fields and rural roads including Hammer Lane near Cowbeech. From 04:00 09/10/2024 flooding will also affect properties on Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. Only scattered showers are forecast Wednesday morning, with very little rain for the rest of the week. The Cuckmere River should begin to fall in Hellingly by 06:00 09/10/2024, and should return to normal by Wednesday evening. The Bull River should begin to fall in Hellingly by 12:00 09/10/2024, and should return to normal by Thursday afternoon. River levels could end up similar to, or higher than recent weeks. From 23:30 25/02/2024 flooding will affect fields, rural roads including Hammer Lane near Cowbeech, and properties on Mill Lane Hellingly, at Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm. From 05:00 26/02/2024 flooding will also affect properties on Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. Rain could continue until 11:00 26/02/2024. Another 20mm of rain could fall. River levels could rise higher than any event in 2024 so far. The Cuckmere River might not begin to fall until 08:00 26/02/2024. The Bull River might not begin to fall until 16:00 26/02/2024. Minor flooding impacts will continue affecting Hammer Lane near Cowbeech, Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm and Mill Lane at Hellingly. Very little rainfall is then forecast until Tuesday evening. Rivers should return to normal by Monday afternoon. From 10:00 on 18/02/2024, flooding will affect fields, rural roads including Hammer Lane near Cowbeech, and properties on Mill Lane Hellingly, at Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm. From 13:00 on 18/02/2024, flooding will also affect Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly, including gardens and properties on those roads. The rain has now cleared for the day. Very little rainfall is then forecast until Tuesday evening. The Cuckmere river should begin to fall by 14:00 on 18/02/2024, and the Bull River should begin to fall by 21:00 on 18/02/2024. Following 30mm of rain Monday and Tuesday, the Cuckmere River is high and rising. The Bull River is high, and expected to rise Tuesday evening. From 16:00 on 02/01/2024 flooding will be very close to properties on Mill Lane Hellingly, at Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm and will continue to affect fields and rural roads including Hammer Lane near Cowbeech. From 21:00 on 02/01/2024 flooding will also affect Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly, including gardens and properties on those roads. Very little rainfall is forecast for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday. The river should begin to fall by 23:00 on 02/01/2024, but with another 15-30mm forecast for Thursday, property flooding could again be possible. Land will remain flooded over the next few days. Flooding will also affect Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly, including gardens and properties on those roads. A further 10-15mm of rain is forecast until lunch time on 02/01/2024. The river should begin to fall by late afternoon on 02/01/2024, and should return to normal from the morning of 03/01/2024. Flood impacts should begin to slowly ease when river levels start to fall. From 18:30 09/12/2023 flooding will affect a small number of properties on Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. The Cuckmere River through Hellingly is falling, but flooding will continue to affect fields, rural roads and be close to properties on Mill Lane Hellingly. Only isolated showers are forecast Saturday evening. The river should begin to fall by 23:00 09/12/2023, but will be higher than normal through Sunday 10/12/2023. A band of rain midday Sunday will likely cause the river levels to rise a small amount again Sunday afternoon, before falling through Sunday evening and Monday. Another 20mm of rain is forecast Tuesday, which could cause flood risk to return. Rivers could rise again, and flood impacts continue or reappear. The river might not begin to finally fall until 12:00 on Tuesday 20/12/2022, and with a week of unsettled weather ahead, might not return nearer to normal until the end of the week. From 09:30 on 19/12/2022, flooding will affect properties on Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. The Cuckmere River is currently falling, but as more rain is forecast Monday morning and evening, flood impacts are possible on Mill Lane, Hellingly and at Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm. Another 5mm of rain is forecast between 09:00 and 12:00 on Monday 19/12/2022. A further 10mm of rain is possible on Monday evening. Another 20mm of rain Tuesday night has caused river levels on the Cuckmere and Bull Rivers to rise. Minor flood impacts will affect Mill Lane, Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly on Wednesday. A Flood Alert remains in force for these minor flood impacts. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding in Hellingly. River levels should begin to slowly fall in Hellingly by 13:00 near Mill Lane, and 16:00 09/11/2022 near Church Road and Station Road. River levels are expected to peak significantly lower than last Sunday and Thursday. The next five days are currently predicted to remain dry. Flood risk should reduce on the Cuckmere and Bull Rivers by Thursday. However, as it is suggested that unsettled weather could return next week, please remain prepared for the risk of flooding to increase again after the weekend. The Cuckmere River through Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm and Mill Lane, Hellingly has already started to fall and conditions should improve here. There is uncertainty in the weather forecast. The Cuckmere River is high and rising. Over half a month's rain (50mm) has been measured at Cowbeech in the past 24 hours, nearly half of that from Storm Aurore on Wednesday evening. From 02:45 Thursday 21/10/2021 flooding will affect properties on Mill Lane, Hellingly as well as fields, rural roads including Hammer Lane near Cowbeech and Grove Hill near Grovebridge Farm. From 07:00 Thursday 21/10/2021 gardens and properties on Church Lane, Church Road and Station Road Hellingly could also be affected by flooding. Only another 5mm of rain is expected before the rain clears eastwards at 03:00 21/10/2021. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are then forecast to remain dry. The river should begin to fall by 13:00 21/10/2021, and should return to normal from Friday afternoon. River levels will peak higher than they have all year. Minor flooding will continue to affect fields, gardens, rural roads and properties on Church Lane, Church Road and Station Road, Hellingly. Rain is forecast Monday. Rainfall totals will be less than Storm Bella but the rain will cause the river to rise again late this afternoon and evening (28/12/2020). The Cuckmere and Bull Rivers are rising steadily in response to 17mm of rainfall this morning. A further 8mm of rainfall is forecast before the end of the day. Flooding is expected from 16:30 along Mill Lane and Station Road and from 18:00 along Church Lane, 05/03/2020. Isolated properties on Mill Lane, Hellingly will be affected. Water is likely to flow across Station Road and Church Lane, Hellingly from the Bull River, towards properties along Church Road, with gardens also affected. Thursday evening and Friday will be relatively dry, so river levels should begin to fall in the area from 09:00 on Friday 06/03/2020. However, further rain is forecast into next week and so levels may rise and flood risk could return again. Water levels in the Cuckmere River are rising quickly following 30 mm of persistent rain today 16/02/2020. From 19:00 this evening 16/02/2020 isolated flooding impacts are expected to affect fields, rural roads and gardens. Mill Lane, Hellingly is likely to be impassable and water could affect Mill properties as well. Water is likely to flow across Station Road and Church Lane Hellingly from the Bull River with gardens also affected. Impacts will be similar to those experienced in the year 2013. Rain is expected tomorrow 17/02/2020 but is not expected to increase water levels. The river will peak by 04:00 tomorrow 17/02/2020, returning to normal by the afternoon.
